Who This Online Beginner Photography Course Is For
This course is designed for people who:
Have a DSLR or mirrorless camera and mostly use Auto or Program mode
Feel confused by shutter speed, aperture and ISO, and want someone to explain it in a calm, logical way
Have tried learning from YouTube, but find it overwhelming and unstructured
Want a step-by-step way to learn photography online, with time to practise between lessons
Would value the option of a 30-minute portfolio review call to ask specific questions and get honest feedback
If you recognise yourself in that list, you’re exactly who this six week beginner photography course is built for.
Why This Six Week Beginner Photography Course Is Different
Chronological, step-by-step structure…
You don’t just get a pile of random tutorials. The course has a chronological structure, so you learn the right things in the right order – from understanding your camera, to exposure, composition, light, and finally building a small portfolio.
Each week builds on the last, so you’re never guessing what to learn next.
Weekly challenges (gradual, real-world practice)…
Every week includes a practical shooting challenge designed to help you apply what you’ve just learned.
Instead of trying to learn everything at once, you focus on one clear task at a time – like controlling motion, improving your compositions, or telling a simple photo story. That’s how real progress happens.
Time to practise between lessons…
The course is spread over six weeks on purpose. You get short lessons, then time to go away and shoot.
You can move at your own pace, replay lessons whenever you like, and practise until the ideas stick. No pressure to binge everything in a weekend and forget it all by Monday.
Option for a 30-minute portfolio review call…
If you choose the review call option, you’ll get a 30-minute 1-to-1 online session with me.
We’ll go through a selection of your images, talk through what’s working and what isn’t, and you’ll have the chance to ask questions about specific problems you’ve run into while shooting. It’s the closest thing to having a personal tutor.
Built by a working photographer, not just an instructor…
I’m not just teaching theory. I’m a full-time photographer and videographer, and this course is based on the way I actually shoot and think on real jobs and personal projects.
The goal is not to turn you into a camera operator – it’s to help you see like a photographer and enjoy the process.
What You’ll Learn Over Six Weeks
By the end of this online beginner photography course, you’ll have a solid foundation in digital photography and a clear sense of what to work on next.
Confidence with your camera – know what the main buttons and modes do and how to set your camera up for success
Control over exposure – understand shutter speed, aperture and ISO, and how to use them to get the results you want
Stronger compositions – use simple tools like rule of thirds, leading lines and framing to make your photos more interesting
A better eye for light – spot good light, avoid the worst of harsh light, and get more flattering results indoors and outdoors
Real-world shooting skills – photograph people, movement and everyday scenes with more intention
A small portfolio you’re proud of – an 8–12 image set showing your progress from week one to week six
How the Six Week Structure Works
Most students will spend 1–2 hours a week watching the lessons and 1–3 hours shooting, but you can go faster or slower – it’s an online beginner photography course, not a rigid classroom.
Watch the lessons
Short, focused videos walk you through one core area of photography in a logical order.Do the weekly challenge
You’ll get a clear brief for each week’s challenge, so you always know exactly what to practise with your camera.Save your best images
As you complete each challenge, you’ll pick a few favourite images and set them aside. These build into your mini portfolio.Review and refine
In the final week, you’ll review your work, learn some simple editing principles, and create an 8–12 image portfolio. If you choose the review call option, this is the work we’ll go through together.
