1-2-1 Photography Tuition in Birmingham

Walk the streets, canals and skyline spots of Birmingham with me and learn how to shoot confident, creative images in just a few hours.

These are relaxed, in-person sessions designed around you – your camera, your experience and your style. We’ll head out into Birmingham (city centre, Jewellery Quarter, canals or Digbeth) and I’ll show you how I work on location, step by step, so you can build confidence and start shooting the kind of photos you’ve always wanted to take.

How my 1-2-1 photography tutorials work

I keep things really simple and relaxed – here’s what to expect when you book a session.

1. We chat about what you want to learn
After you book, I’ll get in touch to ask a few quick questions about your camera, experience and what you’d like to focus on – for example, getting out of Auto, long exposure cityscapes, street photography or editing.

2. We meet up in Birmingham and shoot
On the day, we’ll meet in a convenient spot in Birmingham (usually the city centre, Jewellery Quarter or around the canals). The session lasts around one hour, and we’ll be out shooting almost straight away – working through simple, practical steps rather than complicated theory.

3. You leave with skills you can actually use
By the end of the session you’ll understand how to control your camera, how to read the light and how to compose stronger images. You’ll go home with a set of photos you’re proud of and clear ideas on what to practise next.

FAQ’s

  • Absolutely. Most of my 1-2-1 students are beginners or people who’ve just bought a new camera. We’ll start with the basics at your pace and build up from there. You don’t need to know any technical terms beforehand.

  • Any camera where you can change the settings yourself (DSLR, mirrorless or advanced compact) is perfect. If you’re not sure whether your camera is suitable, just send me the make and model and I’ll let you know.

  • Most sessions happen in and around Birmingham city centre – places like the Jewellery Quarter, canals, Brindleyplace and Digbeth. Depending on what you want to learn, I’ll suggest locations that suit the style of images you’re excited about.

  • A bit of British weather can actually make for interesting photos – but if it’s looking really rough, we can reschedule to another suitable date at no extra cost. I’ll keep an eye on the forecast and stay in touch beforehand.

  • Yes, definitely. Each tutorial is fully tailored to you, so if you want to concentrate on long exposure cityscapes, street photography, blue hour shots or editing, we can build the session around that.

  • Yes – 1-2-1 tutorials make a great gift. I offer gift vouchers that can be used towards any 1-2-1 session. Just choose the amount, and the recipient can then get in touch to arrange a date and pick the type of tutorial they’d like. Contact me and I will explain how this works.

  • Not at all. The whole point of a 1-2-1 is that we move at your pace, with no pressure and no judgment. My job is to meet you exactly where you are and help you take the next step with your photography.
